Last October 26, 2012 the Level IV Nursing Students of Our Lady of Guadalupe Colleges held their Medical Mission at Amang Park Barangay Highway Hills,
Vital signs taking. The vital signs of the clients were taken personally by the Level IV Nursing Students.
The students also did some health teachings about Diabetes Mellitus, Arthritis and the like.
· Blood typing. The blood typing was done by the Level III Medical Technician students. Though there were few who tried this, there were still curious clients who wanted to know or confirm their blood types.
· Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS). The FBS was done by a group from the Philippine Medical Association, headed by Dr. Criselda C. Ishiwata, MD. Dr. Ishiwata came with Ms. Flordeliza Masa and Lynne Mouldera.
· Medical Consultation. The medical consultation was done by the AFP 2nd Battalion. The AFP was headed by Dr. Vital, who was with three other doctors Dr. Joman Laxamana, Dr. Celyn Ignacio and Dr. Lorenzo Labayen. They had consultation one on one consultations w ith the clients and also gave out prescriptions. There were also other soldiers who came and served as the security detail for the said event.
· Ophthalmology Consultation. This was sponsored by George Optical and the group was made up of the following ophthalmologists: Dr. George Co Jr., Dr. Racquel Mansilungan, Dr. Neibla Cheryl, Dr. Denise Magbanua, Dr. Mina Imee and Dr. Reyes, Bema. There were also optometrists who came namely: Reginald Silva, Jennifer Ranoco, Jennifer Torrenna, Michael Vicente; Marvin Vicente, Arlie Bernabe, Joamena Camungol, Raph Agpoon and lastly Mary Joy Ferrer. They gave away free reading glasses to the clients aside from checking their eyes.
There were also medications given to the clients. The list of mediciations are as follows: Solmux, Bioflu, Appebon (Multivitamins), Vitamin E, Tramadol hydrochloride, Nitrofuratoin, Glibenclamine, Amiodarone Hydrochloride, Metformin Hydrochloride, Ursodeoxycholic Acid, Pioglitazone hydrochloride and Osteotos. Some of the medicines were donated by the Unilab, Inc. and the rest were bought by the students
After the medical and ophthalmology consultation, the clients were given the chance to have a whole body massage and a free haircut.
Though there was just a limited time, the medical mission was a success and the goals set were met. The clients were generally happy with the Medical Mission.
